About Red Wing Scouting America

Our Mission

The mission of Scouting America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Scout Law

A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

Scout Oath

“On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.”

Welcome to Red Wing Scouting America!

Red Wing Scouting America is proud to offer three dynamic programs that help young people grow into ethical, confident leaders:

  • Scouts BSA Troop 32 – for boys ages 11–17
  • Scouts BSA Troop 320 – for girls ages 11–17
  • Cub Scouts Pack 32 – for all youth in grades K–5

We meet every Monday at 7:00 PM during the school year at First Presbyterian Church of Red Wing. Families are always welcome to visit and learn more.

Rooted in the values of the Scout Oath and Law, our programs prepare youth to make moral and ethical choices throughout their lives. We do this through:

  • Youth-led leadership: Scouts take charge, make decisions, and learn by doing—with guidance from trained adult mentors and NYLT-certified youth leaders.
  • Outdoor adventure: From backpacking and canoeing to snow sports, river rafting, and summer camp, we explore nature with purpose and joy.
  • Service to others: Our Scouts actively give back through community service projects that build empathy, responsibility, and pride.
  • Personal growth: Through rank advancement, teamwork, and hands-on experiences, youth develop character, resilience, and lifelong skills.

Scouting is more than an activity—it’s a movement that shapes future leaders through fun, friendship, and values-driven adventure.

Joining is easy and open year-round. Stop by a Monday meeting to meet our leaders, ask questions, and see Scouting in action. You can apply in person or join online anytime.

About Scouting America

The Scouting America is one of the largest Scouting organizations in the United States of America and one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with more than 2.4 million youth participants and nearly one million adult volunteers. Scouting America was founded in 1910, and since then, more than 110 million Americans have been participants in its programs at some time. Scouting America is part of the international Scout Movement and became a founding member organization of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1922.

Scouting America’s goal is to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range of outdoor activities, educational programs, and, at older age levels, career-oriented programs in partnership with community organizations. For younger members, the Scout method is part of the program to instill typical Scouting values such as trustworthiness, good citizenship, and outdoors skills, through a variety of activities such as camping, aquatics, and hiking. In order to further these outdoor activities, Scouting America has four high-adventure bases: Northern Tier (Minnesota, Manitoba, and Ontario), Philmont Scout Ranch (New Mexico), Sea Base (Florida), and Summit Bechtel Reserve (West Virginia).

The traditional Scouting divisions are Cub Scouting for children in grades K-5, Scouts BSA for youth ages 11 to 17 and Venturing and Sea Scouting for young men and women ages 14 (or 13 and having completed the 8th grade) to 20.

Scouting America operates traditional Scouting by chartering local organizations, such as churches, clubs, civic associations, or educational organization, to implement the Scouting program for youth within their communities. Units are led entirely by volunteers appointed by the chartering organization, who are supported by local councils using both paid professional Scouters and volunteers.

About Our Charter Organization

Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post 54

Red Wing Scouting America is honored to be chartered by the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post 54 — a local organization of veterans dedicated to strengthening our nation through service, patriotism, and youth development.

The American Legion’s pillars—Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth—reflect a deep commitment to building strong communities and preparing the next generation to lead with integrity. Scouting America shares this mission by instilling the values of the Scout Oath and Law, helping young people grow into ethical, responsible citizens.

Together, Post 54 and Red Wing Scouting America create a powerful environment where youth are not only prepared for life—they’re inspired to serve it.
